Welcome to the end of March! Actually, I can hardly believe that I am saying that, and that tomorrow will be April 1st. Yes, that puts us at only a few weeks till my birthday, but still. It’s almost April! 2016 is already, wait for it, 1/4 over. I hear those strangled gasps and weird shocky noises coming from your throat, probably because they are also coming from mine, but that is neither here nor there. It does also mean that we are that much closer to the release date for Season 2 of one of my favourite shows, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but we can talk about that more in a couple weeks, once I we have a had a chance to binge watch the new season.
I also know that some of you poor suckers people have just headed into Spring Break. We just finished our epic 17 day break a couple of days ago (woohoo!) and most of the kiddos are back to school. It was a long one though, this year, what with the kids having been off school for more than half a month. I don’t know about your kids, but mine isn’t a big fan of a break that long. He likes his friends, his gym class and day to day learning activities, his routine. One of his all-time favourite things to do is the classroom Lego centre. Pretty much any time there is a free choice time, you can find my dude at Lego. He was a bit late to the Lego game, but now that he has started, he is more than happy to spend time in his playroom creating. He is more of a build-your-own style kinda guy, but if he is given a kit, he is usually pretty happy to put it together before adding it to his “pieces to create with” spread. Observe.
He has a couple of Lego Friends sets, as well as some superhero and Star Wars sets and actually used them quite heavily in the building of this training centre, skateboard park and movie theatre that he built this month for his school Lego competition.
Almost as if they knew of his enjoyment of Lego Friends, Netflix included a new kit in the spring break survival kit that we received. Pretty much everything we wpukd need to make it through our epic spring break was in there, including not one but two new Lego sets, a puzzle, craft kit, popcorn and some chocolate, one piece for each day of the (first) week. Oh, and one more thing. The most important thing when you live in a house where there is Lego. Thick, comfy socks to minimize the special kind of torture discomfort when (you’ll note the use of when, not if here) you step on a piece of Lego.
Many times during the never-ending spring break he would disappear up to his playroom to work on some Lego creation. He was very proud to show off a couple of parts that he had completed from his new kit.
For as long as he has known about it, Q has really liked Lego Friends. He likes the characters and the building sets, and has really enjoyed watching the show. When he heard that there was going to be a new Lego Friends show, Lego Friends The Power of Friendship, he was pretty excited to check it out.
I was going to write it up, but figured that it would be fun to let Q tell you his thoughts about the show instead, and the power of (Lego) friends.
If you have Lego maniacs in your house, some of our other favourites this month have also been Lego centered. I will confess, I am a little smitten with the Lego Elves. The sets are so cool, and we are hoping for more episodes of the show in the future.
Who doesn’t love superheros? No one in this house, that is for sure. This is a good option for the crime fighters in your house, especially if they love Batman.
For the more techy Lego fans, Netflix also has the new Bionicles series. We haven’t ad a chance to check this one out yet, but it looks like fun for a rainy spring day (we do live in BC after all!).
What Lego series or characters are favourites in your family?
I am a part of the Netflix StreamTeam, and get to share some of my favourites with you each month. I do receive some fun perks from Netflix for being part of the team, however, all opinions and thoughts are my own, and as always, I’m sharing because I truly think you will enjoy it.
