Sexualizing our kids

Today, when I was perusing my twitter feed, I saw a link to a story about "loungerie" for little girls.  The story had some pictures, and I was so horrified that I don't even want to link to them.  Needless to say, these pictures featured little girls in full makeup, and pearls, and one had a little girl lounging on a chaise lounge wearing a top knotted up high on her chest and a pair of pink … [Read more...]

How pole dancing changed my life

About 6 months ago, I bought a discount coupon to go and check out some drop-in fitness classes at a local studio.  At first, I was a bit nervous  - after all, I didn't know anyone there, and I had never taken any of these classes before.  Plus, they did pole dancing there.  I had heard a little bit about pole fitness, as I knew someone who had done it a few years ago, but really, knew nothing … [Read more...]

Getting back in the saddle

I was so excited when I did my first blog a couple months ago and was determined that I was going to keep at it.  Then life got in the way.  Every time I would sit down to write for a few minutes, something came up. Q wanted me to do something, the phone rang, I got distracted.  Sure, it's easy to come up with all of these excuses  reasons as to why I didn't have time to do it, but in doing that, … [Read more...]

Growing up

Recently Q has taken to calling my Mummy. I'm a little torn about that.  Why, you ask? Well, from the time he started talking, I have always been Mama to him.  I never thought that I would be Mama, always Mummy, but after a while I got used to it.  Even though other people, including me from time to time, called me Mummy, he had decided that to him I was Mama.  We knew that it wasn't that he … [Read more...]

I am grateful

Last night I participated in the So Connected Twitter party to benefit Zack's Dream Room. I have never met Heather Hamilton, Zack's mother personally, but I have tweeted with her and followed Zack's journey as she shared it. Zack Hamilton passed away on March 10, 2011 at the age of 3. He had suffered from several health problems since birth, and fought many, many hard battles throughout his life. … [Read more...]

Frustration

I really hate passive aggressive behaviour. If you don't like what I am doing, or how I am doing it, just say.  If you don't like me, that's fine, but don't pretend to, only to turn around and say things behind my back.  I know that I can't control what other people say and do, but when it affects me in this extent, I struggle with how to act and react. I try to be straightforward, sometimes to my … [Read more...]

Here we go…

Writing a blog is something that I have wanted to do for a long time, but I have never had the courage to actually sit down and put my thoughts to paper.  I have lots of excuses totally valid reasons but I know that life is too short for that, and if that if I actually want to put my words down, I have to just do it.  So here goes. I don't know where this is going to go, whether it's going to be … [Read more...]
