Let’s walk – Music Monday

How is it April already? I know it’s been a while since I’ve done a Music Monday, but with a new month, all that’s changing and I am back to it. I don’t have a definitive theme for this week, aside from these all being good songs.

I have recently started working out again, something I haven’t been able to do for acouple months. Between the bouts of bronchitis and strep throat leading up to my surgery, the surgery itself and then my harder than expected recovery, it’s been a lot longer than I would have liked. That all changed a couple of weeks ago. Out of necessity, I had to walk Q to school. It was the first time in the six weeks since my surgery that I was able to do it, and I wasn’t quite sure how it was going to go. It’s not a huge distance, about 1.5 km round trip, but uphill one way.

After I got there, I was still feeling pretty good, and I happened to have my headphones in my pocket. Our schoo, has a 1 km track surrounding the playing fields that is bordered by a gorgeous forest. It was the perfect place to head out for a stroll. That first day, I did two laps, and felt not too bad. I have since continued to walk every morning, and have been rather enjoying my morning strolls.

To that end, I have been listening to a lot of music, some songs better than others for walking too. This week I wanted to share some of my favourites from last week’s walks, ones that gave me some pep in my step  and a grin on my face.

Try Everything – Shakira

This song was featured in the new Disney movie Zootopia, and I just love it. The song has a great message about just going for it and not giving up and it is fantastic to walk to. I kind of want to dance walk whenever I hear it. I’m actually not kidding about this either.

Make me wanna – Thomas Rhett

While I was walking around the track, this song came on my playlist. I couldn’t remember having heard it before, but I really liked it. In my mind, that is one of the best things about having something like Spotify. It introduces you to stuff you might never have heard. This was one of those songs. I liked the beat of the song, and it conjured up a picture of a country romance. It’s fun.

Light it up – Major Lazer

This song is amazing. I have been really loving Major Lazer since I heard Lean On. This song comes on and you cannot help but move your body. When the beat drops, you just want to get diwn, regardless of where you are.or maybe that is just me. Regardless, this song brings me so much joy.

I miss the misery – Halestorm

We first heard this song while playing Rock Band. Q has adored this song from pretty much the first time he heard it and quite often you can hear him getting his rocker on and singing it at the top of his lungs. This is just a good old rock song and will get your walking pace up if you are anything like me. Perfect for mid workout.

Gonna know we were here – Jason Aldean

This is a boot stomping, ass kicking kind of song and I love it. Kicking butt and takin names,my kind of song. Another slowing it down kind of song about making an impact and having a story to remember.

Lighters – Gloriana

I’ve featured a few Gloriana songs before, but I just really adore them. They have beautiful harmonies and there is just something so charming about the songs. I am so thankful that they were featured on Hart of Dixie, otherwise I likely would never have heard of them. I want to make sure that more people have the chance to hear them. This is more of an end-of-walk song for me, something to just start to bring it down a bit.

So join me and let’s walk, shall we? What songs are you loving this week? I’d love it if you shared them with me.
