Are there any books from your pre-teen or teenaged years that really stick out for you? I have read so many books over the years that a lot of them don’t really make much of an impression. One that did, however, was Flowers in the Attic. I can’t remember how old I was when I first read that book, but I think that it was easily the darkest (and naughtiest) book that I had even laid eyes on. There was something about the story that made you cringe but just want to keep on reading, and I think that probably every girl in her late 20’s to late 30’s or so probably read that V.C. Andrews book at least once growing up. I feel like it was probably one of those books that showed that there could be (gasp!) sex scenes in stories.
Did you know that there is a new Lifetime movie based on the book? It’s actually premiering on Saturday January 18th at 5:00 PST/8:00 EST. for those of us on Twitter, there will be a Twitter party going on during the broadcast, and by using #FlowersInTheAttic, you can chat with other people watching.
Based on V.C. Andrews’ controversial book that quickly became a cult classic, the Lifetime Original Movie “Flowers in the Attic” weaves the twisted story of the Dollanganger kids who, after the unexpected death of their father, are convinced by their mother Corrine (Heather Graham) to stay hidden in the attic of their wealthy grandparents’ mansion so she can reclaim the family fortune. But as her visits begin to wane after she becomes involved with a new husband (Dylan Bruce), the children endure unimaginable treatment at the hands of their ruthless grandmother Olivia Foxworth (Ellen Burstyn). As years go by and the eldest children Cathy (Kiernan Shipka) and Christopher (Mason Dye) come of age, both emotionally and physically, their family’s sordid past entraps them further as they look to each other for comfort.
