Disneynature’s Born in China – connecting people to nature

We are a family of animal lovers. Q, especially, is fascinated with them, and has decided that he wants to be a zoologist who works out in the wild with animals when he is a grown-up. I think that it is a very noble occupation, and if we want to have lots of different animals around for our children's grandchildren, we need to become more passionate about and committed to saving these animals. We … [Read more...]

Learning all about gators at Gatorland – Q’s views

Hi, this is Q and I am going to talk about my vacation in February. I'm sorry it took so long, but here it is. I wanted to split it up into three posts for you to read, and I want to start with our visits to Gatorland and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. First, we took a trip to visit Gatorland. My mom, my grandma Lola and I all went to Gatorland. Once we got there, the … [Read more...]

Inside the mind of my 8 yr old

I've been seeing one of those cute "ask your kids" questionnaires floating around on Facebook over the past few weeks. Basically, the premise is that you ask your child a series of questions, and then record their answers exactly as they say, without any prompting. I had wanted to do it with Q, but wasn't sure just how receptive he'd be. Plus, I was lazy and just hadn't gotten around to trying, … [Read more...]

My amazing, spectacular Christmas vacation – Q’s views

My Christmas holidays were awesome. First, me and my Dad went sledding at the Rotary Stadium hill. I crashed twice but it was fun. My sled got wrecked because it got a hole in it. Dad went sledding too, on my sled. It was cold and there was lots of snow. The hill was steep and I was tired from climbing up. I was glad I went.  The next day me, Mom and Lola went to Fantastic beasts and Where … [Read more...]

Holiday gifts for creative types

Welcome to the One Crazy Kid Holiday Gift Guide! It's that time of year, and if you are anything like me, your thoughts have turned to finding the "perfect" (what does that really mean, anyways?) gift for the important people in your life. I am really bad for putting pressure on myself to find the right gift for people and then inevitably end up debating on them for so long that I one day wake … [Read more...]

It’s all about the heroes

When you are searching for costume ideas, where do you look for inspiration? Do you look to books, or movies, or a favourite television show? Do you come up with a way to imitate or honour a favourite character or do you just let your imagination run wild?  Over the last several years, there has been a fairly consistent theme when it comes to costumes, especially Q's outfits. With the … [Read more...]

Picking up the pieces

I can't remember a time when I didn't want to have a career.  When I was 5, my mom tells me that I quite proudly announced to the guy I had decided I was going to marry (as you do) that he could stay home with our children while I went to work and had a career. When I was in high school, I took honours and IB courses so that I could get into a good university. When I was in the Army, I … [Read more...]

Walking in colour

Recently, Q and I participated in our very first 5 km fun run.  I have this love-hate, actually let's be honest, it's really more of a hate-hate, kind of relationship with running. I'm not really built to be a runner, nor have I ever really been, but during various times in my life, *ahem Army days ahem*, I have done a lot of it. I know it's good cardio and exercise, and I hear every say … [Read more...]
